Scrapbooking is such a rewarding craft in so many ways. I love everything about it! I love reading the stories behind photos. I love the friendships that I've made with fellow scrapbookers. I love watching my kids faces light up when they see a layout of themselves. I love having a complete mess in my studio after I've created a layout. All put together, it's just a fun way to create and preserve the memories.
Balance and simplicityare the keys to photo focus. When designing my pages, I like to keep the emphasis on the photos and the stories that they have to tell. To do that, I keep my page designs balanced and simple with just enough embellishments to keep it interesting - without overtaking the photo's appeal.
Never leave home without a notebook. Inspiration can strike anywhere and getting my thoughts down on paper before I forget them is a huge incentive for my layouts. I am inspired by everything around me - photography, colour, words, lyrics, music, books - you name it!
When scrapper's block strikes look elsewhere or leave it alone. If all you need is a key idea or something to fill a gap, then leave your work area and check out some magazines or other resources for a few hints to get you going again. If this doesn't work, or you feel like nothing will solve your page dilemma, just leave the project for a day or two - a fresh mind is a great cure for scrappers block!
Experimenting with photo techniques is a great way to add variety to your album. Always focus on the eyes when photographing portraits. Experiment with your photos and don't be afraid to take heaps of pictures to get the one you want! Photos can be reprinted (or most of them anyway), so experiment with them on your layouts too! Hand-colour black and whites, write journalling over photos, tear the edges... try anything - have fun!
