I have a simple, quirky style that incorpates everyday items. I’ve been scrapbooking for 10 years now. Much has changed in this industry since then, for instance, I used to have to buy brads in fabric stores. At that time, there were no ‘scrapbook’ stores. My products and tools came from office supply, hardware and craft stores. My style has grown, evolved and changed as well. What has remained the same however, is how I like to incorporate items and products that we use everyday. I try to use items in my pages that I have around my home. For instance, I love making flowers on a layout or card using popsicle sticks as the stem. I prefer my pages without dozens of different types of products. Almost always though, I will have to bring out the ink or paint, even if it’s for a small touch.

My pages start from the photo and build from there. I generally try to plan my pages based on the colours and themes in my photos. I gather products that coordinate with those photos and begin laying them out, kind of like a live sketch. I start with my base and begin layering paper, ribbon and other embellishments until I achieve the look I want.

Inspriation can strike anywhere and I record all of my ideas. If I’m away from my supplies and I feel inspired, I will make a sketch and list products I think will go along with it to use when I have an opportunity. I’m inspired by beautiful photos and by everyday products I see in stores. I also love reading scrapbook magazines and seeing the truly amazing talent that is out there. Sometimes I make sketches of layouts while I’m away from my scrapbook room. These drawings end up on napkins or receipts, depending on where I am at the time I am inspired. I keep an altered clipboard in my scrapbook room on the wall next to my desk and I clip my random sketches to it for future use. That way they don’t get lost and it’s a quick and easy reference place for ideas.

Rub-ons are one of my favorite embellishments because of their versatilty. I love the One Heart…One Mind rub-ons. They work on any surface and come in many themes. The rub-ons can be used on glass, ribbon, mirrors, plastic, wood, paper… and many other surfaces! The possibilities are endless!
