Scrapbookers were the ones who introduced us to craft. We started hearing that people were using words from their Magnetic Poetry kits to glue on their scrapbook pages. They liked the fact that Magnetic Poetry makes it easy to experiment with words. Using our word magnets, it is less intimidating to try out word combinations, phrases, various forms of poetry, and to continually change them. After seeing that people were raiding their Magnetic Poetry kits for words, we started developing word products specifically designed for use in scrapbooking and craft projects. Bringing Magnetic Poetry’s expertise as the ‘word people’ to support scrapbookers’ creative expression feels like a natural for us.

What we’re hoping to do is offer a wide range of options that make it easy for people to add words and word combinations into their projects ~ and to really consider how words can be used as part of their creative expression.

We develop products with a little help from our friends (and family) We don’t have a design team, but as part of our product development process, several of us at Magnetic Poetry have experimented with ways to use our Words & Crafts line for a variety of projects ~ from adding words to gift wrap, invitations, gift bags and gift tags, and other projects – as well as scrapbook pages. We’ve also gotten our own families involved, because we want to make sure our products are easy to use, as well as kid- and adult-friendly. Our ideas for new products come in part from our experience with our regular line of Magnetic Poetry kits. We also take every opportunity we can to talk to and hear from retailers, scrapbookers, buyers and others who know a lot more about designing than we do. It’s all about coming up with ways to make it easy for people to jump in and play with words, which IS something we know a lot about.

Dive into a world of worlds as deep as you want . Some people use writing exercises like journalling or free writing to boost their creativity. Incorporating poetry or a quote can be another way to add meaning. Others use tools like Magnetic Poetry to loosen them up and help them see what they can create with words. But even the use of one word that’s totally surprising on a photo or layout can be striking. The trick is to keep playing with words.

There are so many ways to use words on your layout. Words in themselves can be visual art. The word combinations you use, the typefaces, the size, the punctuation, the individual letters, whether they’re upper or lower case and their position and proportion on the page, all contribute to what you’re communicating creatively. Our 2007 catalog uses the theme, ‘When Words Collide’. It’s an acknowledgement of the fact that taking two seemingly unrelated words and putting them together can create something cool.
