Get Dreamy with Heidi Swapp!

Kylie from Scrapping Clearly fell in love with the Dreamy collection from Heidi Swapp as soon as she saw it, and she knew her customers would love it! This range is full of pink, blue, yellow and teal, and is bright and fun without being garish. So we thought we’d ask a few people to have a play, starting with Kylie herself!

Materials: Heidi Swapp Dreamy paper, ephemera, tag and mini memory file; Other embellishments – Heidi Swapp chipboard, label and glitter stickers, doily, banner, hatpin, epoxy dots, Zig Writers.

Tips from Kylie

- Create extra depth when using the Dreamy papers by layering them with box board.

- Using a mini memory file on a layout allows you to add extra photos and journalling without crowding your design.

- Use different pen point sizes and handwriting styles to enhance your journalling.

Next up is a layout from Manda Moore!

Love you by Manda Moore

Materials: Heidi Swapp Dreamy patterned paper, claer words, glitter frames, ephmera and word stickers; Other embellishments – Crate Paper frames, machine-stitching, Heidi Swapp Color Shine.

Manda’s tips

- Try a grid design with a twist! Set it on an angle rather than on the horizontal.

- Use up your word stickers.Use whole sheets or sections of a sheet as background paper as I have underneath the frame.

- Cut up your frames! Cut them up into pieces and use them for layering or as an embellishment.

“I adore Heidi Swapp’s lines and Dreamy is one of my favourites. The mixture of soft pastels with pops of bright colour is so fun to play with and can work for all kinds of themed layouts. Also the script words are a beautiful touch to layouts for those of us who aren’t gifted in the art of writing script.”
And last but not least, Tess Pretty!

Love the snuggles by Tess Pretty

Materials: Heidi Swapp Dreamy patterned paper, glitter frames, tags, bows and stickers; Cardstock;Stamp – Date; Other embellishments – Tim Holtz letters, A Flair for Buttons flair, Heidi Swapp Color Shine, K&Company Smash pen.

Tess’ tips

- Fussy-cut words from patterned papers and tags for your title.

- Spray Color Shine onto a freezer bag and then dab it onto your background for a different form of texture.

- With lots of paper layers, sometimes minimal embellishment is best.

“I love the colours of this Heidi Swapp collection and the papers are nice and thick. The embellishments will work well with just about any type of project.”

Scrapbooking for a good cause

On June 20th to the 22nd 2014, forty-four ladies made their way from all over Australia to Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation Camp near Gunnedah NSW for the 2014 Art and Craft Retreat.

The retreat was organised by long time scrapbooker and mixed media artist, Deb Godley, to raise much needed funds for 2014 Kidney Kar rally participants, the Warren family of Tamworth, aka ‘Kar 24- Cody’s Country’.

The Warren family

The Kidney Kar Rally raises money for Kidney Health Australia kidney kids’ camps, and the Warrens know first hand all about having a child with chronic kidney disease. Their youngest, Cody lost one of his kidneys after several operations to try and save it.

So not only did the scrapbooking and crafting community come to the rescue – they had a wonderful time doing it.

Classes and demonstrations with Anita Rodway and Jodi Dolbel inspired the retreat attendees, along with a Dusty Attic Birdhouse challenge, a layout challenge and a ‘Heroes and Villains” dress up night.

Donations from Kaisercraft, Manor House Creations, Flutterby Designs, the Scrapbook Nook, Scrapbooking Memories plus independent Stampin Up! consultant Joanne Slee,  Kaszazz consultant Allara Bamforth, and Kim Jeffress for Heidi Swapp made raffles and goody bags a bounty of crafty goodness.

Many of the girls didn’t sleep – they just created all weekend – so there were many beautiful things to look at! Everyone left on Sunday exhausted but with a smile on their face, desperate to know when the next one would be.

The retreat managed to raise just over $2000 for ‘Cody’s Country –Kar 24’ which will all go towards Kidney Health Australia’s goal to raise one million dollars in 2014. Great work ladies!

Guest post: My time at the Scrapbook & Papercraft expo by Beck Beattie

Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo Brisbane, what an amazing time we had!  This is the biggest event we have on the papercraft calendar in Australia and is held every June long weekend.  People come from across the country and New Zealand to be here for the event.  Some focus on attending as many classes as they can fit in and others shop til they drop.  The inspiration on the stands and in the tutors displays are always a highlight and really showcase what paper and glue can create!

This year I was fortunate to be a tutor at the expo on behalf of Craft Queen and I was also Demo Artist for Faber-Castell, sharing all the fun you can have with Gelatos, which have recently been released in Australia.  I shared my time with two amazing artists, Heather McMahon and Michelle Grant, and here is my account of the weekend through photos, and some of the fun had both in and out of the expo doors.

As the weekend came to a close and I got back home, it was nice to see my boys (all three) and found it funny how the little ones suddenly look younger when they are in bed asleep after you have been a way for a few days.  Although I hadn’t fully recovered the next day from the big weekend, funnily enough I was already busting for next year to come around!  Guess that is definitely the sign of an awesome weekend!

I feel very inspired and ready to take on the world (well my little scrapping one anyway lol).  Next year I hope to see you there, and as I will be – make sure you come say hi wherever I am!
