Sheer ruched ribbon flowers

Technique

Each petal is made individually and attached separately to make the final flower

1. Take 1m of sheer ribbon and sew a running stitch all the way along the whole length of the strip (in the middle).  Make sure you have a knot in the end of the sewing thread so the thread will not come out when make the petal

2.  Push the ribbon down the thread towards the knot.  How far you push the ribbon down will determine the size of your petal.  I suggest you end up with a length of gathered ribbon approximately 10-12cm.

3. To add your petal to a layout: The loose thread onto which your ribbon is attached sew this end into position (this will become the centre.  Coming up from the underside of your page with the needle and sew through the end of he ribbon (the one with the knot in).  Pass your needle back through the centre of the flower.  I added another stitch in the middle of the ribbon to anchor the end against the paper. Once you have sewn all you petals down –cut small lengths of coordinated ribbon and sew into the centre to create stamens and attach a button to finish

4. Repeat steps 1 to 3 to create more petals.

You can follow the same steps with non-sheer ribbon as well and create flowers of all sizes and textures – think how great they could look if you did a page of mix an match textures and sizes....
