Xyron answers some frequently asked questions and gives some great tips for using the personal cutting system!

1. How often will I need to change my blade?

If the machine is used for standard non-woven papers, the blade should last for over 500 cuts.

2. How do I remove and load a new cut blade?

To remove the old blade open the lid, and look for the thumbscrew that locks the blade holder into the machine. Unscrew enough to pull the orange blade holder up from the top. Be careful to avoid the end as a small portion of the blade is exposed. Refer to the User guide on blade disposal and replace with a new blade making sure you tightly screw the thumbscrew back into place.

3. How often do I need to change my cutting mat?

If the machine is used to cut non-fibrous paper the cutting mat should last for over 250 cuts. The cutting mat can be moved and rotated to maximize the "stickiness" left on other portions of the mat. Just make sure that the mat is positioned in the upper left hand corner of the tray

4. How do I load a new cutting mat?

Remove the old cutting mat by grasping the used mat in the corner shown by the pink corner. Make sure that you have removed all the layers of the mat. Note: the marked corner on your Personal Cutting System cut tray that is now exposed. Remove the clear non-printed liner first and place your mat so that the cut corner lines up with the outside edge of the colored section. Smooth any air bubbles out with your fingers and apply firm pressure for good bond. Next remove the clear printed liner to expose the tacky cutting surface.

5. My paper doesn't stay stuck to the cutting mat during the cutting process.

Clean fibers off the cutting mat by applying a standard tape to the cutting mat and lifting off quickly. This will help to keep the mat clean.

Replace the cutting mat.

The paper you are using may be wax coated, have a lot of soft fibers or have some other coating on it that would prevent it from sticking to the mat. Try turning the paper upside down to help adhere the paper better.

6.  My machine keeps showing "no such shape".

a)   The design book has small tabs that fit into the book tray sensors. Locate the word "push" on the book tabs and push down towards the tray to engage the sensor in the spine of the book.

Turn the machine off then on again as the book may have not been recognized the first time.

Your pages may not be overlaying the buttons correctly. Un-install the Design Book by disconnecting it from the machine. Verify that you have installed the book in the correct orientation with the book and machine facing towards you as you would read a "normal" book.

There may be debris in the book tray connector. Use a commercial air can to clean out the connector. DO NOT use any metal objects to retrieve debris. This will damage the machine and void the warranty.

7.  My machine doesn't cut consistently.
Use any of the suggestions below:

Please check your cutting blade holder to verify that the holder is locked in tight. Unscrew the side screw, push the holder into position and tighten the side screw.

Your paper should be no thicker than 80lb cardstock in weight or .010" thickness.

If the cutting mat has lots of wear, this can cause the blade to get stuck in the divits in the mat and cut inconsistently.

The blade could be dull if you have been cutting very thick fibrous paper. Replace the dull blade with a new blade.

There may be adhesive or paper shards on the blade, use your shape removal tool to pull the paper off the blade tip and wipe carefully with Isopropyl alcohol.
