RUB-ONS

Rub-ons aren’t just for paper and, because of their adhesive properties, rubs will stick to many non-paper surfaces such as plastic, glass and transparencies. Here are some ideas to try:

Transparent cards are unique and unusual. To create this card, trim a clear piece of transparency to 6”x6” and cover the back with your choice of rub-ons. Create a 3x3 folded card and mount it on the center of the transparency.

Glass containers such as milk bottles and mason jars, work great for rub-ons. In this example, the bottle was covered with white rub-ons and filled with candy. A belly band was attached to the center of the bottle and a tag tied on with ribbon. What a quick and easy gift!

Open frames make for great home decor and the results are fabulous! Start with two same-sized pieces of glass. On one piece of glass, arrange patterned paper, photos, stickers and other flat embellishments. Apply rub-ons as desired, making sure most of the rub-on pattern adheres to the clear portions of the glass. Cover the collage with the second piece of glass and hold together with binder clips, garter clips or a clip easel (as shown).

Take a peek in your stash of “found objects.” You just might be surprised what you find to attach a rub-on to!
